Bathurst seems to have arrived quietly on Oppo this year.

Okay, the main 1000km event doesn’t actually start for another 14 hours, but there has been two days of practice, qualifying and support races each with their own fair share of action.

Highlights have included some pretty serious spills, including one involving last year’s victor, Chaz Mostert, writing off his Falcon in a big way in the downhill esses; resulting in a fractured wrist and femur, several injured flag marshalls, and ultimately closing the track for the afternoon... !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Another crash in the Aussie Racing Car series saw Damien Flack barrel-roll his 1200cc motorcycle-engined, lightweight composite-bodied racecar ar 230kph down Conrod Straight, resulting in a punctured lung and several broken ribs... !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Support categories such as V8 Supercars Dunlop Development Series, V8 Utes, Touring Car Masters (pre-1976 racers), Porsche Carrera Cup (whose main race was cut short by wet weather) also feature this weekend and have also provided their fair share of thrills.

Sunday’s V8 Supercar 1000km main event promises to deliver on action and thrills as it does every year, and with the prospect of rain predicted (not uncommon, and has proven controversial.. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ), it will be one to watch.
